Hotel Review: The Capital On The Park

By: Gloria Masia

Although I wouldn’t recommend using a taxi because the place is deeply rooted inside the city of Sandton, right in the suburb side. Luckily for me on the day I decided to use an Uber because I couldn’t afford to get lost at the time, that’s how excited I was to have an experience of my own. The drop off is exactly at the entrance of the hotel reception. Pretty charming.

The Capital Hotel and Apartments just recently opened its new offering in Sandton.

A modern cosmopolitan hotel to the richest square mile in Africa being around the corner from Sandton Convention Centre.

Located 1.4 meters away from Sandton City, it sure does have a view. Especially during sunset, when the view is just phenomenal, the orange-red colour that the sun combined with the clouds form. The building is very tall, almost like a skyscraper with windows facing all in the right directions, making sure that when their guests glaze through the windows, they sure have an amazing view.

When it comes to the staff, the friendliness was on the next level, from asking me “What would you like to drink?” to “Anything to eat?” I was blown away and of course one might say “It is their job” but as an eyewitness, I could say, those people really made sure that my visit to the hotel was absolutely fantastic.

For some of us who prefer the modern experience and spending most of our time packing for the next ‘out of town’, The Capital on The Park really did acquaint. And of course, on the day I was attending an event “Cosmo Sexiest Men 2019” hosted by Cosmopolitan.

Although, no food was served directly to you, which was not a problem for me because there is a buffet which is my favourite; well who doesn’t like a buffet?? Like… you get to eat your favourites as much and as many times you want. Because they understand that they are catering for different individuals, they have steaks from medium rare to well-cooked. They had different kinds of seafood which I was willing to try the oysters and boy oh boy, exquisite! I definitely recommend these!

There are several activities one can engage in, from a chance to enjoy the indoor golf, the heated pool, a spa with saunas and exclusive gym classes. Well, as for me, I was glued on the pool that looks like it is built on the glass. Swimming and glazing at the sunset was indeed a cherry on my ice cream.

You can also enjoy the evening cuisine of several top restaurants just a few minutes away from the hotel

The fast Wi-Fi connection at the hotel is very tempting to add more time or days to your visit.

Gold Reef City & Casino is 20.9 km away and O.R Tambo International airport is 25.7 km away.

The main attraction, for me at least, is the Cradle of Humankind, just 40 minutes away from where you can see how far the human race has come.

With the prices ranging from R 1 478 - R 2 144. Which is worth it.

  • Overall experience for me was amazing; rating it 4 and a half stars out of 5.
