My worst fear turned out to be my best experience – “Kayaking with the sharks”

Never have I ever imagined myself doing something so crazy my life.

I might be an adventure junkie, but kayaking with over 1200 sharks was sure an adventure and many things.

At first, I just couldn’t wait to finish and get it over and done with, because it was anxiety vs. fear and none of those are good. But as time went by I realized that it’s actually not that bad…

Boom! I then amazed everyone on the boat when I shouted: “Oh, oh, I see a shark right there!” You can't blame me, the excitement was kicking in.

I couldn’t hold it, the mesmerizing beauty of the sharks swimming, the mountains, the whole view… it was so unavoidable.

Well you better keep your eyes peeled because the mammals under the water can pop out at any time.

It was so hot on the day, you’d swear the sun was out to play and so were the animals.

Even on an adventure you still need to take care of yourself, so don’t forget your sunscreen!

It really doesn’t matter what you’re wearing because getting wet is unavoidable, although I would advise that you wear a swimsuit and some cap.

At some point I had forgotten that I was kayaking with sharks and focused on the activity itself.
If you’re looking for a very outdoors activity, then this sport is for you.

It is a peaceful and meditating activity that helps one relax and make friends too. Well, for me, I made quite some friends because every now and then I called out their names because it was scary, more especially when the sharks just decided to pop out right next to us.

St Lucia River is filled with some of the most dangerous animals, I’m talking about crocodiles, sharks, hippopotamus…and guess what? I was kayaking with them all!

We all know how dangerous and aggressive hippos can be, in fact, Hippos are Africa’s most dangerous animal. They are faster than they look.

I’m not that much of a swimmer, nor ever been kayaking, but kayaking with some of the dangerous animals was one of the craziest things I have ever done.

A few minutes later, I noticed a Hippo and asked one of the kayak crew about it and confirmed that it was the Big Ol hippopotamus.

It did disappear underwater, only to appear right next to us. “Oh, we’re about to be eaten!” I said out loud. But hippos actually attack when people get in between them and the water.

Overall experience was amazing, the kayak experts were such an amazing assistance and great people to scream for help, very informative and a big thumbs up for the view. However, I will never do it again!
